That is how XLC describes its campus—a second home where young people from Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, and beyond learn, live, and grow together in faith and friendship.
Karen
The Karen are one of the largest hill tribes in Northern Thailand, known for their close connection to nature and sustainable farming practices. Their beautiful, handwoven clothing, often featuring striking red and white patterns, reflects their rich cultural heritage.
Akha
The Akha people are recognized by their stunning silver headdresses and traditional outfits adorned with intricate beads and coins. Storytelling plays a central role in their culture, with wisdom and history passed down through generations.
Hmong
The Hmong are celebrated for their artistry, especially their detailed embroidery and batik work. They live in highland villages, relying on farming, and their culture is deeply tied to spiritual beliefs and community traditions.
Lahu
Known as “hunters of the mountains,” the Lahu are hardworking farmers with a strong sense of equality in their communities. Their colorful clothing and unique music reflect their vibrant traditions.
Lisu
The Lisu are a creative and lively group, best known for their bright, colorful traditional attire. They live in mountainous areas and take pride in their unique festivals and artistic expressions.
Originally from Myanmar, the Thai Yai share deep cultural and linguistic ties with Thailand. They are known for their Buddhist traditions, beautiful temples, and a peaceful way of life rooted in farming and craftsmanship.
The Kachin people, originally from Northern Myanmar, have a rich cultural identity characterized by vibrant traditional clothing, music, and dance. Their strong community spirit is evident in their gatherings and celebrations.
The Kayan, also from Myanmar, are known for their iconic brass neck rings worn by some women, a symbol of their unique cultural identity. They live in harmony with nature and have deep-rooted animist traditions.
The Shan people are a prominent ethnic group from Myanmar with a significant presence in Northern Thailand. They are deeply rooted in Buddhism and are known for their flavorful cuisine, traditional crafts, and Shan script.
The Lao people share cultural ties with Northern Thailand and are known for their warm hospitality, Buddhist traditions, and vibrant festivals like Pi Mai (Lao New Year). Their weaving and cuisine are especially noteworthy.
Representing the ancient culture of Northern Thailand, the Lanna people have left a lasting legacy in the region. From stunning temples and the Northern Thai language to traditional festivals like Yi Peng (the lantern festival), their culture continues to thrive today.
As the majority group in Thailand, the Thai people are known for their friendliness, rich traditions, and deep respect for Buddhism. Their cultural values of harmony, joy, and generosity shine through in everyday life.
